Owen McCarthy

Owen is the co-founder and President of MedRhythms, a digital medicine company combining sensors, machine learning, and algorithms to help people recover from neurological injury or disease.  Owen also helped start, build, and fund Voxel8, a VC-backed materials company that enables the 3D printing of electronics. Prior to that, Owen gained substantial sales and marketing experience with Ashland Inc., where as a technical sales representative he doubled the value of sales in his territory, serving customers across a range of industries.

Owen is a graduate of Katahdin High School, the University of Maine and the Harvard Business School.  He is a native of Patten, Maine, and he and his wife, Holly (UMaine 2010), have returned to the state they love to pursue their careers.

James Morin

James Morin, a Maine native and 2010 UMaine alum, started his sales career at a fortune 500 Medical Device company. From there, he joined a Portland based startup specialty pharmaceutical company that raised $60M in fundraising and sold for $200M in 2016. Following the acquisition, James joined Flowfold full time, a company he’s been affiliated with since college, as COO and President of Sales. Flowfold is a startup retail company that builds minimalist gear for everyday adventure and is based out of Portland Maine.


James has taken a special interest in supporting local entrepreneurs, demonstrated through community initiatives like Maine Startup & Create Week and the UMaine Business Challenge. He also embraces networking and mentoring, serving on the University of Maine Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Board of Advisors for Maine Outdoor Brands, and as the active Chair and Founder of the UMaine Black Bears of Portland.

Jeremiah Richardson

Jeremiah is the acting Chairman of the UMaine Business Challenge. A rising junior at the University of Maine, Jeremiah is double majoring in Business Finance & Financial Economics, minoring in Legal Studies, and interning with Stone Coast Fund Services, an international hedge-fund administrator based in Portland, Maine. Additionally, Jeremiah serves as the Executive Vice President of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, a Team Maine Student Ambassador, a Peer Mentor for Black Bear Leaders, and a member of the Order of Omega Greek Honors Society. He has previously has served as a Resident Assistant, the Vice President of Finance for the American Marketing Association, an Equity Analyst for the Student Portfolio Investment Fund, and the Treasurer for the Sophomore Owls Society Class of 2019.

Jeremiah received the University of Maine 2018-19 Outstanding Student Leader Award and holds special interests in entrepreneurship, government, and corporate sustainability. He is a native of Rumford, Maine, and enjoys hiking, skiing, and exploring all that New England has to offer.
